3Cut-Out-Design

Cut out Design. The design is cut out after the gold has been inlayed. You don’t cut on the lines, you have to cut just outside of them.

2Cut-Background

Cut the background. The edges all have to be cut and kept sharp.

2Cut-Background02

Remove the background. Joe does deep relief so all that extra metal has to come out a sliver at a time.

1Stipple-Background

Stipple the back ground. Stippling is the little dots that add texture and depth to the background. It is not found on all engraving. It is a choice of style and design.

4Cut-shading

Cut the shading. You will see veins in the scrolls and harder to see in this picture as it is compressed and reduced, hatch and cross hatch for shading.

5Finished-First-Side

Here the first side is finished. It has also had the back ground blackened. 3 layers deep.
